Caps & Cribs
Teen Mom Mentoring Program
The Caps & Cribs program uses mentoring best practices to educate, engage and empower teen mothers. Whether currently enrolled or seeking to return to school – including Florida Virtual or pursuing a GED – our program aims for each young woman to establish goals, stay on track, and earn a high school diploma.
Palm Beach County ranks third in the highest number of teen births in the state of Florida (Florida Charts, 2023). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only about 50% of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age.
Caps & Cribs is the only one-to-one mentoring program in Palm Beach County that works with this special population. Through HMHB’s outreach and prenatal coordination, Palm Beach County’s mentor network, and our collaboration with the School District’s Teen Parent Program, Caps & Cribs is able to have a touchpoints with as many teen moms in Palm Beach County as possible.
The program is accredited by the National Quality Mentoring System by MENTOR, the national mentoring partnership. This badge is an evidence-based acknowledgment of the safety and efficacy of the Caps & Cribs program and assures mentees, funders and policymakers that the program meets national quality standards and procedures for the operation of a mentoring program. Caps & Cribs is one of only six nonprofit programs in Florida to earn the accreditation.
