Peer Support Groups

Emotional Wellness for New and Expecting Parents

Are you feeling overwhelmed? You are not alone!

As the first program of its kind in Palm Beach County, our emotional support groups are designed to support the one in five women who will experience depression and other mood and anxiety disorders before, during and after pregnancy.

Through screening, peer-to-peer support groups, individualized care coordination and training for health professionals, this program reaches both pregnant and postpartum families and promotes healthy moods, bonding strategies with babies, and how to cope with stress.

HMHB provides a trusting atmosphere for mothers and their support partners to gain a better understanding of their emotions and focus on the mental health of themselves and their babies.

Explore the different groups available and find the right fit for you!

  • Motherhood can be hard but it doesn’t have to be lonely.

Whether you are pregnant or have recently given birth, Circle of Moms is an easy way to share your feelings and connect with other women who understand you. It is safe and confidential.

  • This group will help you prepare for the arrival of your newborn as you transition to parenthood.

We will discuss common concerns and doubts about the hospital stay, the first few days with the baby, and how to cope with emotions.

This is a group for women in the third trimester. A new group will begin each month.

  • The postpartum period is a unique time of physical and emotional change for the whole family.

In this group, you'll gain the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the first few months of parenthood and have a healthy and well-supported experience.

This is a group for moms with babies who are 0-3 months old. A new group will begin each month.

  • Mothers & Babies is six-session group for pregnant women and new mothers to help manage stress and prevent postpartum depression.

These groups cover a variety of topics to promote bonding with the baby, healthy communication strategies and social support.

  • Dads play an important role in their family, and we are here to listen and support them along the way.

Circle of Dads is a peer-to-peer support group that provides a safe space for dads to learn from other dads. We invite both biological fathers and father figures to talk about parenting challenges and successes.

Dads with partners who are expecting or have children ages 2 and under are eligible to attend the groups.

  • The birth of a baby can be an exciting time for couples. The transition to parenthood can also be challenging.

Connect with other couples to share experiences, successes, and concerns in a safe and confidential space.

This group is for expecting couples in the third trimester.

Training for Professionals and Students

In addition to support groups, we offer trainings to promote awareness about perinatal mental health. These trainings are designed for students, physicians, nurses, pregnancy care providers, mental health professionals, case managers, and any other professionals who support perinatal families.

In our trainings, participants learn about mental health disorders that occur in pregnancy and postpartum. The training provides tools and information to improve care for perinatal women who experience depression, anxiety, and other behavioral health concerns.

The training runs approximately 90 minutes - it is free to attend and CEU credits are available. Visit our calendar to register for the next training or contact Maternal Wellness Coordinator, Elais Perez at eperez@hmhbpbc.org to schedule a private presentation for a professional or student group.
