About the Workshop:
This presentation will explore the unique maternal mental health challenges faced by the Haitian population, with a focus on cultural and systemic factors that impact access to care.
Participants will gain insights into the cultural beliefs surrounding mental health in Haitian communities, common barriers Haitian mothers face in seeking care, and strategies for providing culturally competent and responsive mental health support.
Attendees will leave with practical tools and knowledge to better serve this population during pregnancy, postpartum, and in cases of pregnancy or infant loss.
Learning Objectives:
Understand Cultural Factors Influencing Maternal Mental Health
Attendees will learn about the cultural beliefs, practices, and stigmas surrounding mental health in the Haitian population and how these factors impact maternal mental health during pregnancy, postpartum, and infant loss.
Identify Barriers to Accessing Mental Health Services
Attendees will be able to identify common barriers Haitian mothers face in accessing maternal mental health care, including language, cultural competency, and systemic healthcare challenges, and explore strategies for overcoming these barriers.
Develop Culturally Competent Approaches for Maternal Mental Health Care
Attendees will learn effective, culturally sensitive interventions, and best practices for providing maternal mental health support to Haitian mothers, ensuring care is responsive to their unique emotional, cultural, and linguistic needs.
About the Presenter:
Natacha Dalberiste is a Licensed Psychotherapist, private practice owner, maternal mental health specialist, and a devoted mother of three.
Her passion for maternal mental health ignited in 2016 after enduring pregnancy losses and a traumatic birth, experiences that inspired her to support women navigating motherhood and healing from pregnancy or infant loss.
Natacha is the founder of Dalberiste Counseling & Wellness (DCW), where she and her team offer virtual mental health services across Florida. They specialize in maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and couples’ therapy. As a Qualified Supervisor, Natacha also mentors post-graduate interns.
Natacha is deeply committed to serving her community. In partnership with a local women’s hospital, she and her team provide maternal mental health counseling in Haitian-Creole to their postpartum patients, ensuring culturally sensitive care for Haitian women.
When she’s not working, Natacha enjoys listening to podcasts, spending quality time with family and friends, and speaking on topics related to mental health and burnout prevention.
